Somewhere along the line somebody must have taught us that meditation is for calm people.
If you've tried meditation but stopped because you have a busy mind or can't stop your thoughts, I might be a good meditation guide for you. I emphasize to all my meditation students that the purpose of this practice isn't to stop your thoughts and feelings, but to change your relationship to your thoughts and feelings. The technique I teach can help you develop more peace, gentleness, and awareness--right here in the midst of your life as it is. This practice has helped thousands and thousands of meditators in the past, and continues to work to this day.
I strive to offer trauma-informed meditation guidance, and acknowledge that we all bring unique experiences and backgrounds to the practice. Gentleness and listening to your own intuition are always emphasized in the approach that I teach.
For those interested in getting support for their meditation practice, I offer one-on-one training in the ancient art of "calm abiding," which is popularly known as mindfulness meditation. This technique comes from the Buddhist tradition. In keeping with that tradition, I offer this service is free of charge. I do accept donations.
The format of learning meditation with me is as follows: we have a first meeting via Zoom that lasts about 45 minutes where we talk about your interest in meditation and any background you'd like me to know about. After checking in, we get into learning and practicing the technique together. We close our session with a dialogue about how the practice went for you, and we address any questions or concerns you may have. If you want, we schedule another meeting for about a week later, where we review the technique and discuss any questions that may have come up for you. This follow-up session is shorter, usually about 20 minutes. After that, If you'd like ongoing support for your meditation practice, I'm available to meet with you once a month for a 30 minute session where we practice meditation and discuss your experience of the practice.
